Biography & Project Statement
Amanda Saviñón is a Dominican-American visual and performance artist with a Bachelor in Fine Arts from Lehman College of The City University of New York. In her work, which primarily consists of photographic self-portraits, she explores themes like identity, gender, sexuality, psychology and history in a contemporary context. Amanda is currently based in New York City and works for Refinery29, a media lifestyle magazine.
X&Y is a series of photographic self-portraits that focuses on the concepts of gender, sexuality and sentiment. Inner emotions are conscious experiences and are sexually ambiguous. The state of tranquility (our way of returning to the light) that one must reach does not come from what or who you are, but from what you feel and love.
